REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 1

If you’re into customizing your Airsoft gun, then you’ve probably came across PTS Syndicate before. In the past, PTS worked together with Magpul and is known for producing high-quality aftermarket parts for the Airsoft market and training purposes.
Back in 2014, PTS split apart from Magpul and started producing its own products like the Fortis REV rail which we are going to take a closer look at in this review.

MATERIAL AND BUILT QUALITY

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 7

The PTS Fortis REV Rail we are reviewing is 12 inches long and weighs 290 grams, which is just 30 grams more than the real-steel REV rail.
The rail system is built out of the same 6061 aluminium, that is used in the aerospace industry. The built quality is top-notch, there are no flaws or whatsoever. The surface is smooth and the edges are free of burrs.

As you can see in the photo above, all the licensed markings are sharp and colored like on the real rail. The color coating is very tough and doesn’t scratch easily.

When buying the PTS Fortis REV rail you also get a Low Profile Gas Block and gas tube that also features the Fortis markings.

DESIGN AND ADAPTABILITY

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 15

As mentioned before, all Fortis products are characterized by their minimalistic and futuristic design as is the PTS version. “A light and modular rail system with a slightly aggressive look ”– that is probably the best way to describe the rail itself.

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 12

Thanks to its slim profile, the rail is very ergonomic and conveys security and stability. Another strength of the rail is its modularity and ease of customization.

The PTS REV rail features various Picatinny and KeyMod rails sections on the 3 and 9 o’clock position. Looking for KeyMod accessories? PTS has you covered with their “Enhanced Rail Section” line of products.

Furthermore the rail has four QD slots for mounting rifle slings and other hardware.

The top and bottom rail section conform to the MILSPEC 1913 standard for mounting all your grips, flashlights and other compatible hardware.

INSTALLATION & COMPATIBILITY

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 16

PTS states, that the REV rail is compatible with both AEGs and GBBRs, so we used a Systema 2015 PTW Super Max 2 as our testing platform to see, if it fits.
At first, we removed the hand guard, the flash hider and the front set and, in the end, removed the barrel nut. The REV rail mounts directly to your standard barrel nut, so we took the barrel nut and removed the delta ring and the spring inside.
Now the only thing that’s left from the Systema PTW Super Max’s front set is its naked barrel and the nut and we’re ready to install the PTS REV rail.

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 17

Mounting the rail is fairly easy. Remove the four hex-screws at the bottom and remove the bracket, then slide the rail over the barrel and and put the bracket back in place so that the barrel nut goes right trough the bracket, screw the hex-screws back in place and you’re done. For further information watch the video at the end of the review.

REVIEW PTS REV RAIL SYSTEM 19

We had a problem mounting the REV rail onto the Systema PTW as one part of the lower receiver, which houses the front pin, sticks out a little too much for the rail to sit flush against the receiver. Loosening the barrel nut wasn’t helping and the only way to get the rail mounted flush is to remove a bit of material from the bottom section of the mounting bracket.

Installing the fake gas block wasn’t possible either as the outer-barrel of the PTW was a bit too thick. An aftermarket barrel could help solving the issue.
Nevertheless, the fake gas block can easily be mounted by sliding it over the barrel and screwing the two setscrews in place.

CONCLUSION

PTS is showing once again with their replica version of the Fortis REV rail, that they’re sticking to their guns. The built quality and their attention to detail is as excellent as we’re used to. The only negativity here is the lacking compatibility to the 2015 Systema PTW. If you’ve already used the rail or own it, feel free to leave your impression and experience in the comments below.
